Days of vision prevention focus on the eyesight of police officers, security personnel, and rescuers.

For the eleventh time, the Days of Vision Prevention are taking place, during which Eye Centre Prague conducts eye examinations for security personnel, police officers, and rescuers directly at their workplaces. This preventive measurement is welcomed by various rescue services every year. Last year, a record participation was achieved, with more than 800 members of the integrated rescue system having their eyesight examined. Similar interest is expected this year.

Quality vision is essential for the work of members of the integrated rescue system, and annual eye examinations conducted directly at their workplaces are a significant benefit for them.

Program of the Days of vision prevention

  • On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, preventive examinations will take place at the Police Presidium of the Czech Republic on Strojnická Street in Prague 7.
  • On Wednesday, November 15, 2023, employees will be examined at the Regional Directorate of Police of the Capital City of Prague, located at Kongresová 2 in Prague 4.
  • On Monday, November 20, 2023, the Municipal Police of the Capital City of Prague will undergo preventive examinations together with the Emergency Medical Service of the Capital City of Prague at Korunní 98, Prague Vinohrady.

Results from previous years confirm the importance of the event

The Days of vision prevention have been held since 2011. This year marks the eleventh edition of this event.

Over the past years, Eye Centre Prague has examined nearly 7,000 healthcare workers, security personnel, and police officers in Prague. The results so far confirm that the event is meaningful, as the preventive examinations detect not only common refractive eye defects such as myopia and hyperopia but also potential hidden eye conditions, such as elevated intraocular pressure.

Detected cases included cataracts and various retinal diseases. Among individuals who underwent eye examinations repeatedly, positive developments were noted, with a decrease in the number of patients experiencing poor visual correction and dry eye syndrome.

“We recommend undergoing a preventive eye examination once a year, and we are pleased that members of the Integrated Rescue System take our recommendations seriously. Only through this commitment has the entire event transformed into a long-term significant project,” says MUDr. Radan Zugar, chief physician at Eye Centre Prague.

Eye examinations during the Days of vision prevention are not time-consuming for rescue personnel and take about 20 minutes. They include instrumental vision measurement as well as an examination and consultation with an eye doctor, who will recommend any necessary treatment. An advantage is that if further examinations are needed, comprehensive follow-up examinations, including specialized retinal examinations using OCT Angiography, can be performed directly at Eye Centre Prague.

Rescue services welcome eye examinations for their employees at work

There has been a long-standing high interest among members of various rescue services for eye examinations conducted directly at their workplaces.

The mobile eye examination has become somewhat of a tradition at our workplace. Since the end of September, we have regularly received inquiries from our employees about whether they can expect eye examinations again this year. We are very pleased about this. Good vision is indispensable not only for our lives but also for our work. The increasing interest from employees clearly shows that cooperation with the eye centre has been a step in the right direction,” says Irena Seifertová, spokesperson for the Prague Municipal Police.

The Days of vision prevention at the Police of the Czech Republic have truly become a tradition. Police officers and civilian employees make extensive use of the preventive examinations every year. Doctors conduct examinations and provide specialized consultations right at our workplaces, which is a significant benefit. Additionally, regular preventive eye screening and early detection of potential eye conditions help prevent serious health complications,” says Colonel Mgr. Zuzana Pidrmanová, head of the Prevention Department at the Police Presidium of the Czech Republic.
