Life without glasses is great
World Glaucoma Week takes place this year from March 8–14 and highlights the importance of prevention of one of the most serious eye diseases – glaucoma, also known as the silent thief of sight.
Glaucoma is one of the most common causes of irreversible vision damage and blindness worldwide. What makes it particularly dangerous is that in its early stages it often develops without any symptoms. Up to half of patients are unaware of their condition, because the first problems often appear only when permanent vision damage has already occurred.
The main risk factor for glaucoma is increased intraocular pressure, which can slowly and painlessly damage the optic nerve over time. The only way to detect this risk early is through a preventive eye examination.
As part of World Glaucoma Week, our clinic is also joining this preventive initiative. Throughout the entire week, you can visit us without an appointment and have your intraocular pressure measured free of charge.
The examination is quick, painless, and can help detect the risk of glaucoma early.
Glaucoma often causes no symptoms.
Damage to the optic nerve is irreversible.
Untreated glaucoma is a very common cause of blindness.
Increased intraocular pressure cannot be detected without an examination – it does not hurt and usually shows no signs.
Early diagnosis can significantly slow the progression of the disease.
According to studies, glaucoma affects approximately 78–80 million people worldwide, and millions have lost their sight because of it.
If glaucoma is detected early, its progression can be effectively slowed down. Treatment primarily focuses on reducing intraocular pressure and usually includes eye drops, laser treatment, or surgical procedures.
At our clinic, we also offer modern surgical treatment using iStent micro-implants, which help reduce intraocular pressure and stabilize the disease. This procedure is fully covered by health insurance.
